Boroughbridge Motors, part of the Reed Boardall Group, the temperature controlled storage and distribution business, has joined forces with local Volvo partner Crossroads Truck and Bus Ltd to create an on site Authorised Testing Facility (ATF) able to provide MOT testing for the 180-strong Reed Boardall fleet.
“As we work with the leading names in the food industry, we’re constantly looking for ways of improving our service to customers, whether it’s by investing in the latest vehicles or by streamlining our systems and processes,” explains Howard Gill, managing director of Reed Boardall Transport. “With almost 200 vehicles in our fleet, it made sense to work with Volvo to invest in a dedicated ATF lane located here at our Boroughbridge site following the closure of the Wetherby testing facility.
“We have a vehicle standards assessor on site to carry out annual checks to ensure that our tractors and refrigerated semi-trailers are roadworthy and meet all of the safety and environmental standards. Working with Crossroads, we’re finding that this new system is providing a number of benefits in terms of convenience, speed and efficiency.”
Reed Boardall is one of the largest temperature controlled food distribution businesses in the UK, storing and delivering frozen food from manufacturers across Britain, Europe and further afield to all the UK’s best-known supermarkets. Operating 24/7, its 180-strong fleet of vehicles delivers an average of 12,000 pallets a day and it stores around £100m worth of products on behalf of its customers. It is based at a single site in Boroughbridge, Yorkshire, which is the largest of its kind in Europe.
